Detail: No official US documentation has been located verifying Frederick I's death. However, his son, arrived in Philadelphia in 1805. Friedrich Thomman II's original Swiss birth and baptismal record, contains a post-entry note, translated: "To America. 1803. ♰ 23-APR-1833 in said place."
The 1803 departure to America could be Friedrich Thomman II departure date, arriving in 1805. The ♰ indicates death. Friedrich II passed away in 1855, which is 22 years after 1833.
The death in 1833 is thought to be linked to Friedrich I, baptized on January 1, 1763, rather than Friedrich II.
In the early 1800s, the sole method of Transatlantic communication was maritime travel, which required several months for information to be transmitted between Switzerland and Pennsylvania. Thus the possible confusion of the 1833 death.10,9 |
