Some family trees list David Dunkelberger (b. 1784 - d. 1850) and Susannah Sullenberger (b. 1793 - d. 1870) as the parents of Mary Ann Dunkelberger (b. 1814 - d. 1893). Documented research debunked the aforementioned parental connection to Mary Ann. Documented sources list Susan Sollenberger and John Dunkelberger as having eight children, Mary Ann and her seven siblings, which are different than those listed on David and Susannah's family tree.

"The maternal grandparents, John Dunkelberger and his wife, were natives of Berks county, but came to Perry county early in life and settled in Spring township, where they spent their lives in farming.
